The Quiz of Inner Liberation

soul liberation moksha

📝 DESCRIPTION
[Show/Hide]

The Hindu Concept of Moksha

The basic idea behind this quiz takes its inspiration from the concept of Moksha, a word of Sanskrit origin, not translatable into English, which describes a spiritual phenomenon that is as important as it is distant from Western culture. Moksha literally means “liberation”. In the complex and varied Hindu religious tradition, this notion indicates a form of liberation that is not physical, but rather inner and therefore spiritual. In the Hindu view, souls are literally stuck within Samsara, or the endless cycle of reincarnations. The body thus ends up becoming a prison, although the vast majority of humanity has no awareness of this.

Spiritual Liberation Is Not for Everyone

The problem of liberating the soul from the constraints and illusions of the material world only concerns a minority of people, while all others fit perfectly within the world-system, which is sometimes also called “matrix” in honor of the movie released in theaters in 1999 (original title: The Matrix).

In essence, some possess the so-called divine spark, while others do not. Those who retain the spark within themselves will, sooner or later, have to come to terms with the demands of the soul, even though, life after life, their rational mind will do anything to silence the call of the universe. If you find yourself on this website/app, and feel a genuine desire to deepen into this topic, chances are that you are among those who possess the divine spark.

PURPOSE OF THE QUIZ

Symbolically retracing the path of the soul who arrives on planet Earth for the first time, without a user’s manual or defined memories of its wider existence; and who, nevertheless, finally manages to awaken with the goal of returning to its true spiritual home.
Identify the 14 stages of consciousness evolution and select them in the correct order.
Since this is our own peculiar interpretation and revisiting of the concepts of soul awakening and spiritual liberation, we suggest you read this article before taking the quiz:

We enter the world completely ignorant and without reference points. No one provides us with an instruction manual for living well. What to do, then? We have no choice but to rely on the tools that nature itself has provided us with, those that every living being possesses and uses to orient itself in the physical world and learn about it.

The five senses allow us to explore the physical world and gather stimuli from outside. Such sensations or perceptions may be pleasant, but at other times they cause discomfort, irritation, until they become unbearable. Pain is an example of this. Have you ever seen a pet at the mercy of the roar caused by a summer thunderstorm? Humans are not so different, in fact when faced with something unfamiliar they often react in the same way.

🕵️ NEED A HINT?

The human mind does not like to live in a state of fear or, even worse, terror. When something frightens it, after an initial moment of bewilderment and instinctive reaction, what does it do? There are basically two possibilities. The first is to face the fear, whatever the cost. The second alternative, definitely more common than the first one, is based on denial. Denial can take many forms; for example, pretending that a problem does not exist at all, or attempting to belittle it, or again inventing a “rational” explanation that turns the problem into something harmless or even positive.

How long can a comforting explanation, with little relevance to reality, last? Even for a lifetime, why not! However, the unconscious mind keeps working in the undergrowth and sooner or later it will bring up that little issue that you have been trying to hide or forget. In the meantime, the small problem has magnified and ignoring it now becomes quite hard. At this point, a new form of fear or apprehension takes over, perhaps less intense but more constant over time, which is capable of simmering the mind and generating a sense of impatience. What to do?

Uncertainty, in the long run, can lead to madness. You must deal with it somehow. You can opt for a retreat back to the stage of consolatory self-deception, or head off in the diametrically opposite direction, the one that has not yet been explored, and, for that very reason, particularly disturbing. You are faced with a crossroads: either turn back on the known path, or continue on the unexplored one. But what will be there beyond that crossroads? What if I then get lost? What if I get into trouble? Is it really worth it? What if….

After accepting the existence of doubt within one’s existence, the feeling of uncertainty and impatience only increases further. Having doubts is no pleasure to anyone; after all, we live in a world that claims to possess solid scientific certainties and beyond. You can always opt to return to the consolation stage by telling yourself a pleasant and reassuring little tale. However, thinking about it, some of those supposed certainties rest on an unstable foundation to say the least.
Wouldn’t it be a good idea to find out for yourself, putting aside for a moment the assurances and beliefs taken for granted up to this point, and see if there is more to it?

A well-done search motivated by good intentions always leads to some interesting revelations. In the case of spiritual research, these might be discoveries that are disruptive, to say the least, and that can unlock a new realm of possibilities. A feeling of disbelief, even bewilderment, follows. It becomes nearly impossible to stop just now; in fact, thoughts go their own way and the world now looks so different than it did just a moment before. This feeling is somewhat similar to that experienced as a child, when, faced with a phenomenon never seen before, you felt a mixture of curiosity and awe.

This stage is one of the most traumatic and enlightening at the same time. The feeling it causes is comparable to the sensation one feels after buying an object that has been long desired and on which disproportionate expectations had been placed. At first, excitement and curiosity take over. Then one soon realizes there is nothing magical or special about that object; in fact, seen up close it even looks cheap. In the end, it works despite not being perfect; yet there remains that bitter aftertaste in the back of the mouth along with that latent sense of unfulfillment.

After making resounding discoveries about the workings of the world and the nature of reality, and following the disappointment that comes from realizing that things are not exactly as we have been told, what is left to do? Returning back to a state of blissful ignorance gets more and more difficult, and would mean lying to oneself in the first place. But why do other people appear to raise no questions at all? Is it possible that they can live quietly and carefree in their unawareness? No, this is not acceptable. One has a moral duty to inform them and at least try to awaken them from their mental numbness! The world will never become a better place if sleepers are the majority! You are ready for change, but others are not yet. Is it not so?

In trying to inform and help others, one eventually comes up against a harsh reality: other people are fine as they are and have no desire to turn things upside down. They live just fine surrounded by duality. It doesn’t matter how much effort you may put into trying to do good for the masses, because if people don’t perceive the problem and consequently don’t want to be helped, there is really nothing you can do outside of acknowledging it. Doubts are beginning to arise that soul awakening and the evolution of consciousness are not goals within everyone’s reach. Sad to say, but it really seems that this is an individual path and not a collective one. Another noble hope being demolished, as if spiritual liberation consists in giving up all the false securities and unrealistic expectations accumulated over time.

This is the ultimate point of no return. The moment when the change of perspective takes place and the transition from the mental to the spiritual plane is made; regressing is no longer possible. This is the stage when it finally becomes possible to distance yourself from your mind, gaining the realization that your true self is not defined by your thoughts, which are often the result of external conditioning. You are about to acquire the ability to detach yourself from earthly and material possessions, embracing a perspective focused on the inner quest rather than running after worldly things. So, are you ready to experience a higher form of consciousness that will connect you directly to the divine source?

You are almost there. Only one last step remains to be taken before freeing your true spiritual essence, once and for all, from the chains of the physical world. In order to do this, it is necessary to assume a detached and imperturbable point of view, which is totally insensitive to material needs and mental temptations related to doing and having. This is the stage of so-called “ascent”, where the link between one’s individual soul and the Whole, that is, the entire universe, is consolidated. Earthly things, and the duality in which they are immersed, take a back seat: the focus now shifts to the otherworldly plane and everything becomes a matter of consciousness and awareness.

🌟 SPIRITUAL IMPLICATIONS 🌟

Transcending Duality
Moving beyond the perception of reality as divided into opposing forces (good/evil, light/dark, self/other). This involves recognizing the underlying unity and interconnectedness of all things, leading to a state of non-judgmental awareness and acceptance.

💰Dissolution of Attachment💰
Releasing the clinging to material possessions, sensory pleasures, ego-identifications, and even fixed beliefs. This doesn’t mean rejecting these things, but rather experiencing them without being controlled by them. It cultivates inner freedom and reduces suffering caused by loss or change.

🔥Depletion of Karma🔥
Exhausting the accumulated effects of past actions (karma) that bind the soul to the cycle of rebirth. This involves consciously choosing actions aligned with compassion, wisdom, and truth, thereby eliminating karma accumulated throughout present and past lives. It also entails accepting and learning from the consequences of past actions without creating new negative patterns.

♻️Interruption of the Cycle of Death and Rebirth♻️
Breaking free from the endless cycle of birth, death, and rebirth (Samsara) by eliminating the root causes of karmic bondage: ignorance, attachment, and aversion. This liberation is achieved through self-realization, the direct experience of one’s true nature as eternal and divine.

Access to New Forms of Evolution
Moving beyond the limitations of the physical and mental realms and accessing higher states of consciousness and spiritual manifestation. This can involve developing new capacities for intuition, creativity, and spiritual insight, as well as aligning with the evolutionary impulse of the universe.

🕉️Spiritual Free Will🕉️
Gaining the ability to consciously choose one’s thoughts, emotions, and actions, rather than being driven by unconscious patterns or external forces. This involves cultivating spiritual awareness, discernment, and the capacity to act in accordance with one’s highest values and aspirations. It’s the freedom to create one’s own destiny, aligned with the divine will.

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS

1. Mental Illumination vs. Spiritual Awakening

No assessment, however insightful, can definitively determine whether your experience represents genuine soul-spiritual awakening rather than intellectual enlightenment. The boundary between the spiritual and mental realms remains one of the most subtle distinctions in the human experience—comparable to the profound difference between living faith and intellectual belief.

Ask yourself: Do you perceive your essence as a spiritual being temporarily inhabiting this dimension, or is this merely a concept you intellectually embrace? The true test lies in this question: Would you willingly surrender all worldly attachments today if offered passage to your spiritual home? If hesitation arises—if you sense something of value remains in this material existence—then what you experience may not be moksha (spiritual liberation) but rather its shadow: mental understanding cloaked as spiritual insight.

True spiritual awakening isn’t an intellectual position but a lived reality that transforms your relationship with existence itself. The awakened being doesn’t merely think differently—they exist differently, perceiving the world through eyes unclouded by the veils of māyā (illusion).

2. The Point of No Return

When moksha emerges from authentic soul awakening, consciousness crosses a threshold from which no return is possible. Just as a butterfly cannot revert to its caterpillar state, the liberated consciousness cannot unknow what it has realized. If you harbor anxiety about regressing to your former state of unawareness, recognize this as the mind’s final resistance to surrendering control.

This fear itself provides valuable insight into your current position on the path. The liberated soul knows that consciousness, once expanded, never contracts to its previous dimensions. What might appear as regression is merely the mind temporarily reasserting its dominance—not a loss of spiritual awareness but a temporary clouding of it.

Consider the mind as an instrument rather than your identity. Observe its machinations with the same compassionate detachment a scientist might observe natural phenomena—without judgment, without identification. When its voice becomes overwhelming, remember that you possess the consciousness that contains the mind, not vice versa. The volume control remains in your hands.

Understand that fear itself exists only as a construct of mind—a protective mechanism designed for physical survival but misapplied to spiritual awakening. In the realm of true being, fear dissolves like mist in sunlight, revealing the unchanging awareness that was always present.

In conclusion, all that remains for you to do is to read our article dedicated to inner or spiritual liberation, which accurately illustrates the peculiar characteristics of each stage. We also recommend that you view the short essay focusing on Moksha, a concept of paramount spiritual importance derived from the very ancient Hindu philosophical and religious tradition.
